Wish upon a Star

ONCAN (Oriental Negros Children Advocacy Network) in partnership with Robinson's Place Dumaguete City is holding the Wish upon a Star for three years now, granting less fortunate children have their wishes come true on Christmas. I have always mentioned how I was blessed with so much this year, and how I really wish to pass it forward, so here I am trying my best to make that star a reality.

You got to pick one star from this Christmas tree. The star contains the photo of the kid, her number, and the wishes that the kid has.
My little star is #63 age: 12, and her wishes are simple, and it is my pleasure granting it. She wishes for a bag, school supplies, and a rain coat- and so it is.

Bag- check!

School Supplies- check!

Rain coat- check!
However, I feel like something is missing. Food!!! I thought of chocolates and candies. For this one, I need to remember what I love back when I was 12 years old, so I decided to bring out the classic chocolates and candies I could get.

Nips, Lollipops, the classic Curly Tops, Gummies, and other nut bars.
I hope those would make her happy. Now, I must tell you people that I have this major over gift wrapping. I totally love wrapping gifts. I also made sure my little star would love the gift presentation just as much as the content of the box. I want to create something special and grand..haha My materials are as follows:

Gift wrapping paper.

Paper twine for the ribbon.

Double sided tape and a gold wire.

A card for me simple message and the flowers for some decoration

Viola! My gift!

When I arrived at the venue, there are a lot of gifts handed too. They also gave us an invitation for the gift giving. I would really love to meet #63, but I have a duty on that day. I couldn't meet her to personally give my gift and hug her. I just hope she'll be happy with what I came up with.

My invitation.

My gift right there in the center.

I was really having a hard time deciding wether or not to publish this post, because I believe in the bible teaching under Matthew 6:3 "But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." However, my conscience says otherwise. I am posting this because my goal is to encourage others to extend their arms and share their blessings too. I also encouraged my friends to sponsor at least one kid. Make someone happy. Grant that star. Growing up, I never believed in Santa Claus and me over thinking about it made me feel like my childhood is incomplete (sigh). Hopefully doing this act would have #63 feel Santa Claus is true...xoxo!

  2. That's really nice! :) Too bad you weren't able to give the gift yourself, it would have been wonderful to see how happy she is with your gift :) God bless, advance Merry Christmas :))

  3. Mabuti naman ang aim mo kaya tama lang na ipost mo ito. :)) Sayang nga at hindi mo personal na maibibigay ang iyong gift pero sigurado na yun, sobrang saya niya sa matatanggap niyang iyan :D

  4. Your post blessed my heart. This is how love gets spread, one person reaching out encourages others to reach out. We have done the angel tree before and the shoe box to Africa. This year I am thinking about giving to this one organization that provided things year round. I have been saving change, do not know how much I have now but that is not important, it's the giving that counts. God bless you and your giving heart.

  5. dai, don't use Matthew 6:3 against you. you have a very good intention when you give the gifts. so it's not applicable alright

  31. I really loved this post, you are such a sweet person. I am sure your little star will love everything in this box! We have something similar in my home town for children whose families don't have much money and otherwise wouldn't get any gifts at Christmas. It is a lovely idea!!

    Have a lovely Saturday

  32. Bless you. That young lady will be thrilled with your presents. Years ago, when my then twenty-something son wanted to know what to get me for Christmas, I told him to go to the mall and get one of the stars off their tree to give something to a child... the same sort of program that you've written about here. He felt so good about doing it, here it is twenty years later, and he's still picking a star every year. Giving really IS more wonderful than receiving. I hope you and your family have a very wonderful Christmas.

  34. I am so glad you posted this story, it is an inspiration for others to give. And a reminder for me to donate to two places that have been on my mind. This is a wonderful way to make a difference in a child's life. And you certainly went to town with it. I know little number 63 will always remember when she received her gift from you. I see her now, eyes lit up, a big smile of wonder, and knowing in her heart that there are kind people in this world. Merry Christmas to you and all the best for the New Year. Also, thanks for stopping by my blog. I am now your latest follower ~ you are an inspiration. ~ Inger
